What is SFI?
SFI (Svenska för invandrare, Swedish for immigrants) is the Swedish course for adults who have moved to Sweden. It is run by your municipality (kommun), and that is where you apply.
SFI has four courses, A, B, C and D, on three study paths (studievägar) that suit different school backgrounds. Course D is the last one; after it you can go on to Swedish as a second language (SVA).
SFI courses B, C and D, and Skrol's levels
As a rough guide, this is where each SFI course sits on the CEFR scale that Skrol's course follows. Your SFI school decides your course and your grade.
SFI course B
You can introduce yourself, ask simple questions and understand everyday phrases. Practise with the beginner level: greetings, numbers, your day, food and shopping.
SFI course C
You manage routine situations and talk about what happened. Practise with the elementary level: health care and 1177, housing, the authorities, money and work.
SFI course D
You get by at work and in society, and speak and write more freely. Practise with the intermediate level: job interviews, formal emails, your rights at work and Swedish society.
| Level | What you can do | Compared with SFI |
|---|---|---|
| A1Beginner | Greet people, introduce yourself and understand simple everyday phrases. | Roughly corresponds to SFI kurs A/B |
| A2Elementary | Handle routine situations: shopping, appointments, talking about your day. | Roughly corresponds to SFI kurs C |
| B1Intermediate | Get by at work and with authorities, and tell others what happened. | Roughly corresponds to SFI kurs D — the level SFI finishes at |
| B2Upper intermediate | Follow the news, take part in discussions and write clear, detailed texts. | Beyond SFI — around SVA grund |
| C1Advanced | Use Swedish flexibly in study and work, including complex and formal texts. | Beyond SFI and SVA grund |

Questions and answers
Is Skrol an official SFI course?
No. Skrol is an independent app built for SFI students and useful alongside SFI classes, but it is not run by a municipality or a school, and it does not give SFI grades or certificates.
Can Skrol replace my SFI classes?
No, and it isn't meant to. Your teacher, your class and your grades matter. Skrol gives you more time with Swedish between classes: more speaking, more listening and more words.
Which Skrol level should I start with?
As a rough guide, SFI course B fits A1, course C fits A2 and course D fits B1. The free level test gives you an estimate without an account, and after you sign up a placement test can start you at a higher level.
Does Skrol cover the topics we do in SFI?
Skrol's lessons are about everyday life in Sweden: health care and 1177, housing, work and job seeking, the authorities, school and family life. It doesn't follow any particular SFI school's plan, so use it for extra practice next to your course book.
Can I use Skrol in Arabic?
Yes. You can use Skrol in English, Swedish or Arabic, and the Arabic version reads from right to left. Videos show an English or Arabic translation under the Swedish subtitles, and the AI can translate and give feedback in English or Arabic. Lesson explanations are written in English, but the AI teacher's feedback in the Translate and Speak steps can come in Arabic.
